FIREWORKS BLOW-UP
Walt Disney World required pyro-technicians to attend an annual re-certification. These highly experienced team members did not need training but could use reminders and updates on new procedures. Past re-certifications had been poorly received lectures. Complicating the matter, prior redesign efforts had failed. Rather than regurgitating information, Lenn re-themed the training into an "expert" review in which the trainees examined a series of pyro set-up photos, identified proper and improper procedures and reported their “findings” to the group. The resulting makeover was an engaging, participant involving experience in which the trainers confirmed what the trainees already knew and interjected additional information as appropriate. This re-design was so successful that the same procedure was used in successive years.
